Based in Peterborough, Time For Tea Parties cater bespoke afternoon teas and hire our beautiful vintage crockery for your event. Catering for weddings, hen parties baby showers and more in the surrounding area, they set up, serve and clean up.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

It goes without saying that we need a date, location and approximate number of guests. I also find it very helpful to know what the event is, i.e: wedding, anniversary or corporate. Is the client looking for a relaxed family evening or something more formal? Then what is the venue like, does it have a kitchen, is it going to be inside or outside? The more the organiser can tell us, the better tailored our quote will be, we want to
provide exactly what the client has envisaged and the more information we have the easier that becomes.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When I was recently looking to have a new kitchen fitted I was obviously concerned about the price but once I had decided my personal budget I was then looking for a kitchen designer who understood what I wanted, had some ideas of his own, and had excellent reviews. I think those principles apply really well to selecting a caterer. Budget is very important but equally the caterer needs to be a good fit for your event. You will only find that out through communication, so ask as many questions as you like, read reviews, and of
course particularly for a wedding, ask for a tasting session.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

My business came from a love of vintage china. When I had over 100 sets I realised I
could hire them out for functions which in turn led to a friend who knows me as a baker
asking me to provide the afternoon tea as well. A group of good friends joined me and the
rest is history. I enjoy every aspect of the job, from coming up with an appropriate menu, baking some
fabulous goodies and even washing up! Best of all, is the satisfaction of a job really well
done and a delighted client.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We pride ourselves on overcoming any difficulties we encounter. We recently catered for a 25th wedding anniversary that was held in a large complex which housed a cafe and church. When we arrived the cafe had only just closed and the kitchen we were to use was still being cleaned. The lobby area where we were to set up the buffet was also the entrance to the church and a service attended by 100 people was just about to
commence and then the final difficulty was that at least half the congregation stayed for a cup of tea after the service which they made in the kitchen we were using. We managed to work around these problems and serve a hot and cold buffet for 100 people on time and still smiling. A great time was had by everyone.
