What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order to provide you with an accurate quotation, rather than a rough estimate, we need to know the following information so we provide you with the right DJ, music and equipment.

VENUE
We need the exact postcode of the event and any local insight you have about the venue like parking availability, parking charges, access to where the event will be set up internally and the location and availability of power for our equipment. For the power, for our bigger systems, we will require a 20A ring main which is not powering anything else. We need to know if the venue has noise limiters and or smoke sensors installed.

TIMINGS
We need to know when you want your event to start and end and whether you are considering extending the end time. The time taken to set up and pull down varies depending on the size of the venue and number of guests and is reflected in the cost.

TYPE OF EVENT
Whilst we provide services for weddings, birthday parties and anniversaries we specialise in the mobile club experience so we need to know what the age group and music preference is so we get the music just right. Whilst our DJ's will take requests they prefer to agree on a musical policy upfront with the hosts and stick to it, referring any requesters back to the host.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When considering a DJ think carefully about how important the music is to your event. There are hundreds of DJ's out there but few have real club experience or a real eclectic taste in music. Modern technology has taken the difficulty out of mixing but those who are in it just for the money deliver a soulless service. With the advent of services like Spotify, everyone now thinks they are a DJ. Age counts for a lot when picking a DJ as does years on the job as this ensures a wealth of musical knowledge to keep your event on track, Established DJ's are less likely to cancel on you, turn up late or refuse to play longer if you want them to. Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Expansion Roadshow came into being when three friends decided that setting up a mobile disco was a good way to earn a living whilst studying at college. Our passion for dance music of the era ensures we already had a wide and varied musical collection of vinyl between us so we set about buying the transportation and disco equipment we needed.

There was no social media back then. Only good old fashioned newspaper and shop window advertising but we soon built up a strong local reputation and the rest, as they say, is history.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We are new to Add To Event but early indications are that the service represents a genuine opportunity to grow more business. Within the first couple of days, we were sent more than 20 opportunities to quote against and we provided 5 quotations for our services.
