What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide an accurate quote, I’ll need the date, time and full postcode of the event along with a rough idea of ages.

If you have any other information that you think will be useful let me know this too (e.g. is the event indoors or outside, is there a theme, are you looking for a full ‘party package’ or a magic show on its own).

Once I’ve got this information I’ll be able to send you a quote (or quotes for different options).

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Start by thinking about the ages of the children who are going to the event, and what types of entertainment they would enjoy (Is it more ‘clowning’ or ‘magic’?).

Secondly think about how long you want the entertainment to last, if the party is two or more hours long, and you are wanting the children entertained throughout, then you will need an entertainer who can entertain them in a variety of ways.

Once you have thought about those things you should have a better idea of the type of entertainer you are looking for and the skills they should have.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Ever since I was a child I was fascinated by magic. Then as a teenager, I started designing and performing my own tricks. Even all these years later, I love the moment when you know that you’ve entertained and fooled an audience at the same time.

So I became a children’s entertainer and magician, and I love it. Children are the most honest audience you will ever have.

I still enjoy performing magic for adults when I get the chance, as it gives me the opportunity to perform styles of magic (mindreading etc.) that you don’t get to perform for children.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I receive lots of bookings through Add to Event, for large events in community centres and church halls, as well as smaller parties in people’s gardens and lounges. I particularly enjoyed a Birthday party recently in Woking. I kept the children entertained with magic and games, for an hour and a half before food. The children had a great time (whilst the parents had a chance to relax).

That’s my job, I’m a magician and entertainer, there to entertain the children and to take the stress out of the party for the parents, and the ‘grown-ups’ can enjoy the magic too.
