Max's Sentient Jukebox is a private event DJ who specialise in Funk, Soul and Hip Hop music. They love to keep everyone dancing at their events, and here they've shared a few tips so that you can find a DJ who'll do the same at your event.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide an accurate quote, and the best service possible, I'll first of all need a date to confirm my availability. A brief description of the event, including location, will allow me to assess if I'm the right man for the job! If it's a larger event, it's good to get an idea of how many attendees to expect, so I can select the proper sound and lighting equipment to please the whole crowd, and keep everyone dancing.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Being a DJ, despite how easy some make it look, is about much more than just pressing play! A great DJ is an expert on the equipment they use, and can troubleshoot quickly and efficiently when something goes wrong. They are avid music collectors and can adapt their selections to any crowd without flinching. Some will mix their selections to create a seamless listening experience, some will play one track after another and use the microphone in between each song to hype up the crowd. My advice for choosing a DJ for your event would be to ask plenty of questions. Reliable, professional DJs will be proud of their service, and happy to discuss what they do and how they play in detail.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started DJing as a teenager as a form of expression, much like somebody who takes up guitar or paints. I started a residency at my local nightclub a year later and I've never looked back! I've DJed for fun throughout my whole career, and I believe this is a really important part of the service I offer. I love that I could take my passion as a young person and turn it into my job as an adult, and I carry that same passion and experience with me to the events I play now.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I started using Add To Event properly just a couple of months ago, and I've already secured numerous bookings through the platform. Although none of these events have happened yet, I've been really impressed by how easy it's been to use the site and the number of enquiries available to choose from is brilliant! I've found it really easy to communicate with potential clients, which is super important for me. I've never used it as an organiser yet, but I know I will in future.
