Based near Havant in Hampshire, Ian Buckland DJ & Master of Ceremonies provides a bespoke service to customers and has worked on over 600 weddings. They provide speakers and a mobile disco for a range of events from weddings to small, private parties.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For me to give you a quote I would like to know the following information: the type of event - is it a wedding? Secondly, the most important piece of information - the date - so I can check my availability; unlike some suppliers, I will only take on a single event, so you are assured of top quality service for your event. The location of the event - is it in a marquee, hotel or private residence? All these things are very important to be able to provide a stress-free function.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Have you seen the DJ before at a party or wedding? Is the DJ offering to meet you before the event to talk to you about your own expectations for the event? Never just book a DJ on price; if it's a wedding, do you want your wedding reception ruined? Experience comes with a cost.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started out as a DJ and I had a love of music from a very young age, born entertainer some might say. I played at it until September 1981, when I was offered a job as a DJ for a local football club. In May 1982 I decided to become a mobile DJ with a dream of becoming full time at a job I loved. In November 1984 I took the brave move to go full time, since then I have worked at venues large and small.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Well, my first event was a wedding reception at Beaulie Motor Museum - a stunning venue with its own walled garden. Although working the venue is challenging, as the stage is at the other end of the room and 2 flights of stairs at the entrance. All I can really say is WOW! What an amazing room to use for a wedding. I hope to grow with Add to Event as it grows. I have recommended Add to Event to a couple of other DJ's and Marquee companies, as I find it to be a great way of getting leads for events.
