What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order to provide a comprehensive quote for a customer, we would ask for the event date and location. For a corporate event, we would need to know the ideal time to be on site and the number of employees to be served. Alternatively, for a wedding or similar celebration, we would quote one price that includes both the amount of time attended and also all the ice-creams your guests could eat. We also cater for all shows and events.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Firstly, be it corporate or a wedding, first impressions count. Gone are the days of clapped out old ice-cream vans belching out black fumes, they may still be seen trundling around the odd housing estate but you wouldn't accept second best ice-cream vendors at your event and you shouldn't have to! Ask the provider about their equipment, modern ice-cream vans have modern ice-cream machines and can cope better when serving large numbers in warm weather, older equipment will leave the vendor waiting frustrated for ice-cream machine to freeze up and will leave you and your employees/guests frustrated too. Ask about the menu they provide as well as any vegan options as this is a must also.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Steve's Whippy started out quite by accident with myself as a lad answering an ad in a newspaper wanting a "van driver", little did I know what the job actually was. I was soon hooked and still love the job now after 21 years in the business. My daughter Georgia had just been born when I drove my first ice-cream van, she's now starting her third season as a second-generation ice-cream vendor and she has a passion for the job also. We pride ourselves in appearance, punctuality and product and have one of the largest menus of freshly made ice-cream products you will find whilst also offering mixed flavour ice slush and ice lollies also.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

There have been so many bookings through this platform that we have enjoyed attending, every wedding is someone's special day and we were happy to be invited to attend each one! We were honoured to attend the Graduation Ball Of Initial Officer Training at RAF College Cranwell in Sleaford, Nottinghamshire last summer, the young officers there were celebrating their graduation day along with friends and family who had travelled from all over the country and on a warm summers evening they all enjoyed a lovely ice-cream (along with quite a few bottles of bubbly!) The reviews we receive are excellent and allow potential customers to read comments and see if we practice what we preach.
