What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order for us to provide the client with a comprehensive quote we would love to hear a little bit about the event they are planning. Information we need includes the time and date of the event, the location and the number of guests estimated to attend. Our quote will take all of these factors in to consideration.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you are looking to hire an ice cream van you might firstly want to ask to see photos of the van. They all have different looks and you will want to see that the van fits in with your particular event. You might want to ask whether the van serves scoop ice cream or whippy ice cream, and whether there are a choice of flavours. Some events prefer a range of scoop ice cream flavours, and some prefer whippy ice cream. A van serving whippy ice cream will be noisier than a van serving scoop ice cream due to the machinery needed to produce the whippy ice cream. If guests are paying for their own ice creams you might like to ask what the price range is. Different sellers will have different pricing strategies so you might want to take into consideration the amount that your guests are going to be charged.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Fat Sam's Ice Creams was born in 2004 when Sam was offered the opportunity to buy an ice cream van along with it's regular rounds. Given that he had been a loyal and enthusiastic customer of this particular van for many years he jumped at the chance! Very quickly we started to get so many bookings for events that we soon needed another van, and then another, and another! We now have a small fleet of ice cream vans and enjoy attending events far and wide. Its become a real family business with our daughters involved too.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Add to Event has provided us with many bookings and has become a really valuable part of our events booking strategy. One booking that we particularly enjoyed was for the Twinings company in Andover. They booked us to come along to their offices and provide their employees with ice creams on a set day last year. Even though the weather was not too good on the day, the ice creams went down a treat. What a lovely way to reward your staff for their hard work! They were really pleased with the service we provided and left a great review. If we are contacted directly, either via our website, email or telephone, for an event that we find we are unable to attend as we are booked up elsewhere we always direct our clients to Add to Event so that they can find an alternative through this excellent platform.
