Mezzaluna aims to provide an authentic Italian eating experience whatever the event and are open to creating a totally unique dining experience to suit all needs with an Italian twist! They share a few thoughts on how to check a prospective provider.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a comprehensive quote to a customer, ideally we need the event date and time, a brief explanation of the type of event they are hosting, the estimated number of guests and potential venue, how they would like the food to be served i.e. mobile street food served from a van, cold or hot buffet etc. and whether they are looking for one pasta option per guest or a full menu (including starter, main and dessert).
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would advise checking a provider's social media! I think a lot of great business now know to use social media or a website to showcase their work and this might give you a better idea of the type of food they can offer, the type of set up they have and how experienced they are. This is also a great way to look at reviews from previous customers.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Food has always been at the heart of all of our family and social gatherings. It reminds me of my parents and grandparents sitting around the kitchen table, the smells of Christmas and birthdays, lazy Sundays and weddings and being greeted with a home-cooked meal on return from university. Food, for me, has always been one of life’s greatest comforts. My grandad moved from Italy to Dundee in the mid-1950s bringing a wealth of cooking knowledge with him which I’ve been so lucky to learn by his side over the years.
Mezzaluna has been inspired by family recipes which have been handed down through the generations, making use of good quality local produce and recipes which include “a little bit of this and a little bit of that” style of cooking. Our mobile street kitchen focuses on bringing authentic Italian pasta and meatball dishes to the Scottish street food scene, primarily in my home town of Dundee and its surrounding areas. Our main aim is to provide hearty and tasty home cooking and, like all Italian families, to feed you just that little bit more than enough to satisfy your hunger.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We have had a lot of great bookings through Add to Event. Especially events that are local to us and allows us to support other local businesses. One, in particular, was to provide canapés for a launch party of a new business start-up in Dundee. They were so happy with our service and we have now established a link with them which has now led on to securing more bookings with them in the future.
