What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To be able give an accurate quote to a customer I need to know the location and name of the venue, date and time and length of time they require. Information about the type of event and guests is also vital whether they are young or older, children, etc. The number of guests is also very important to know as a guide to how long is required.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure you have a good idea about the way the entertainer looks and dresses to fit your event and audience. Check videos and photographs to get the best idea about their style of work. Check they have good references from previous clients, length of experience and membership of a creditable organisation such as The Magic Circle or Equity (which automatically provides third party insurance).

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Magic Up Close started from a lifelong fascination of magic and its ability to make people astonished and show people that things aren't always what they seem. It's very satisfying to make a difference to people's parties, events and weddings. I like to work independently and provide a personal service to the best of my ability.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I believe an inquiry from a South Wales Rotary club resulted in a memorable evening for them and myself. Starting with some close-up magic round the dinner tables introduced myself and the magic. After the dessert I performed in cabaret and they were a fantastic audience - very appreciative. I had great fun with members of the audience and received bookings from other Rotary clubs as a result!
