What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

Ideally the specific time required at the location (although based in Kent I do travel across most of the UK), specifics on the numbers of people attending and if possible a ball park figure they have in mind for budget. As I tend to work backwards, from budget then planning something that can work within the given budget, ideally. I tend to stay away from 'packages' of all kinds, from holidays to photography!

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure that the photographer or videographer is someone you can get along with, make sure you're on the same page creatively. It's important to get along with people. There's no point hiring someone whose work looks cool, but who is going to add to your stress levels.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I trained as a photographer in the days of film, learnt to develop pictures in the darkroom etc, and shot films using super 8 cameras, then I went into the music business. About 10 years ago, after quite a bit of success in the music industry, I picked up a camera again, and instantly fell in love all over again. The passion I had for visuals came back. The original love affair and feeling I used to get when taking shots and looking through old camera gear at specialist shops all came back and it was a wonderful feeling. I started shooting stuff for my music projects, making music videos as well as band promo shots, shots for album covers etc, then I got asked to shoot a wedding. Loved it.

I like the idea of playing a part in people's big moments, whether that be their wedding or significant
birthday. It's a cause for celebration, people are happy and its a real buzz. I then try to capture that buzz, either in video or photograph, freezing that moment in time. A magical moment that can be relived only by looking at the video of the moment, or looking through all the pictures.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I love Add to Event. It's my favourite site of its type, and I have used a couple of others. The people who run the site are accessible and I love that. The people I've dealt with as clients have been the nicest people I've worked with. I would recommend the site highly.
