What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
When providing a quote to a customer I generally look for
The Amount of people it's for
The date and time for the food to be produced
The type of venue is essential because the easiest venues in the world to cook at are other fully equipped kitchens or spaces.
As the venue becomes less equipped, i.e. in a field with no electric sources, the price may go up accordingly as the potential equipment list for the job grows in my head.
The Organiser needs to remember that its not just the food they are asking for, it's the complete packaged service.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Previous Experience in my opinion will always be an important factor.
For example although my freelancing business is new this year, I have been a Head Chef for 10years and in the industry for 20years. Picked up a lot about putting on events and executing specials evenings.
Also, don't just go for the cheapest option.
I'm a firm believer in 'you get what you pay for'
If it IS a special occasion, look to spend a bit more making it memorable and put on a good experience after comparing and contrasting potential catering/service offers.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have been a head chef for 10 years in Pembrokeshire, and in the hospitality trade for 20 years.
When the lock down happened I saw an opportunity to start up my own takeaway food from the restaurant I was working in. with the furlough pay in place, there would have never been a better time to start creating a customer base whilst still being paid my wage for not necessarily working.
This has developed into a full restaurant style menu delivery service which can be adapted into Buffets/Weddings/functions.
Having my own business enables me to work my own hours around my home life and put a positive emphasis in the best areas of my work for myself rather than working long hours for someone else.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Add to Event has REALLY surprised me. My friend told me about it, and that it might help me fill in gaps of quietness here and there. I thought I had nothing to lose really. When I signed up, I had to pay £24 to get some coins which I thought may have been a waste of money, but I respected the website needs to make money somehow.
Within 4 hours of me putting my details up I had a booking of 9 people having a 3 course menu 18 miles from where I live.
So I was gobsmacked and instantly impressed with the links made straight away which made me £300 in my first Add to Event Dinner. Making my initial investment back instantly and lots more.
The ladies party that I fed, left a lovely review too which made the hard work, pressure and travelling all worth while.
Thanks Add to Event you've really opened some doors for me and my business!
