What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The main thing any caterer needs to know is dietary needs, especially any allergies so that our menus are safe as well as consistent making sure all your guests have the same styles of food, gone are the days of Nut roast as soon as someone mentions being vegetarian.
That's the safety side what we also need to know is what do you really want as menus to us are only a guide, we tailor tweak and adjust to what you want not what a set menu says. Understanding the venue, the theme, the party with friends. Gone are the days of having to have a stuffy sit-down three-course meal, now its about fun, family and friends.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
My main advice is are they flexible as even with the best planning in the world something we change whether that be the weather, the last minute delay due to traffic or a tyre blow out of guests, the fact power isn't as suggested or the water tap is half a mile away things in life change. Can the supplier think on their feet and adapt or is the attitude as set as the menu. We pride ourselves on thinking on our feet staying calm and with close communication working around a problem not making one bigger.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Pure and simple a love of food combined with meeting new people in often random settings (so far catering in a multi-storey car park is leading the random location chart) are the reasons I started CC. The hours can be long and anti-social, the clean-ups after an event mundane and tedious but I wouldn't change it for the pleasure it brings seeing happy guests, complimenting your food and passing your details onto friends and family.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I think Add to Event is great I have had bookings on here that have helped fill the diary when you get a last minute cancellation or a date has slipped back in the diary. The information is well set out and in the main the leads are very good. It has allowed me to scale my business especially the bar side knowing I have a bank of potential customers waiting to place a booking when you get another vehicle on the road before word of mouth fills the diary. This has pushed me to accelerate my business where word of mouth couldn't have.
