Purple Elephant Media are a Hertfordshire based Video Production Agency that produces and edit video content for events, promotion, corporate, music and performance. With their experience and insight, they share some useful tips when looking to find a similar provider.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide an accurate quote we need to know what type of event you’re organising, along with the event's location and date.

We then need to know what it is you’re after in terms of video output (e.g. An event highlight video or presentations/performances filmed and edited in full).

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would always make sure you look for an extensive portfolio of previous projects, this should give you an idea of the end product you’d receive, and also how adaptable a production team are to a variety of projects.

Once you’re happy with their Videography portfolio you want a team that keeps things simple for you and won’t bog you down with a million questions. You want a team who are able on the day to just turn up, be shown around and get on with their job, the last thing you want is the video team to be hounding you at an event asking tons of irrelevant questions. So look for a team who sound confident in what they are doing, and not asking too many questions to ease their own insecurities.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Purple Elephant Media is a 2 man team from Hertfordshire. Myself Dan, and my colleague Jake, we both became from studying at University, and after graduating played the game of trying to build experience. After both working at the bottom of the ladder for London’s based firms, we decided to go it alone and actually enjoy what we do.

We’re both proud to be able to do what we do and enjoy every second of it, being involved in so many great events and working with so many different teams. It’s never felt like going to work and for as long as that continues, we’ll be there with our cameras.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We’ve been active on Add to Event for just under 2 months now and we’ve already made our money back 30 fold. Our first event we booked was to cover the Norfolk Summer Deaf Festival. We spent 2 days in Norwich working with an amazing team covering presentations, performances and the buzz of the crowds.

A leather share of our income is accredited to freelancer/tender sites, and we’re glad to have found Add to Event and are looking to be very promising and we aim to be very proactive on the site. A lot of other sites working on a credit-based system are overpriced, with very questionable projects listed, unlike Add to Event which is absolutely fantastic value for money, and have yet to come across a project we’ve questioned the validity of.
