What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For me to provide my client with a transparent quote, all I need to know is the date and venue of the wedding, and a little about you as a couple and what your wishes are, ie, something traditional, outside the box etc.
The more information you can give me, the better sense I can get of what my clients are looking for,
As a celebrant, I amend my introduction, writing, and delivery of the ceremony in accordance with my client's wishes.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask your celebrant if they have a qualification and/or are adequately trained.
There are SO many suppliers in my field who are NOT trained and work only from templates, which provides the client with a cookie-cutter / one-size-fits-all ceremony.
Ask them how long they've been trading and ask them to send you some testimonials from past clients.
Ask also what venues they've worked at, and if you can give them a contact to get feedback.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I trained to become a celebrant 7 years ago following the death of a parent.
As a professional singer of 36 years, I decided to offer my voice to Funeral Directors, and more directly families planning funerals, and soon discovered what a celebrant was. A year later, I trained with the top training facility in the UK, and the rest is history.
Weddings now balance my work beautifully. Regardless of the type of service, my offering is based on helping people, on writing ceremonies that are genuine, warm, personal and encompassing.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I'm pleased to have had several bookings through this platform.
In fact, two of the bookings were to work at Ashridge House, and that is how I became known to the team there and am now a preferred supplier.
I do find sometimes that many couples are so budget conscious that they underestimate the cost of a celebrant, and are too easily tempted to go with a 'cheap' option. I take pride in the service I offer, and I know what that service is worth to my clients. Don't be tempted to just go with the least expensive supplier. Take the time to speak to suppliers. See who you click with. It'll be worth it.
