What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order to be able to quote as accurately as possible we need - most importantly - the date and venue.

It's not a problem if, at this stage, the client doesn't know how long they need us for as we send a link to a pricing page that gives them all the options to consider, time and price wise.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I think the most important thing - and I tell all couples who enquire directly this - is to see at least one, ideally 2-3, full wedding galleries from the photographer. The galleries should cover at least from the ceremony until the wedding breakfast and longer if possible.

This is for 2 reasons:

1) So that you can see that the photographer is able to maintain a high quality of work at different times of the day, in varying lighting conditions and when the activities of the day are moving as fast as weddings can - and you need to check that they capture the important moments - brides entrance, first kiss etc etc

2) So that you can assure yourself that you and the photographer are on the same page as to what they would cover for you - what THEY see as a good image may not be YOUR idea of a good image and so this is important. It's too late to find out you don't like the photographer's style of work when you see your wedding images for the first time!

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I trained as a photographer when I first left school a loooooong time ago (in the days of film and dark rooms!) but then was lured into the lucrative world of IT consultancy instead for many years.
A mid life crisis in 2006 saw me start the business "as a hobby" and never intending to do weddings.
By 2009 I was doing 45+ weddings a year and loving them and that love for the job continues to this day.
My ultimate aim is to capture the events of their special day in an unobtrusive, documentary style and in a way that sparks emotion when they look back at their photos.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I did a GORGEOUS wedding in Hereford in June 2022 for a couple who booked me through Add to Event - a church wedding followed by a "festival style" reception in a marquee at the family farm.
It was one of those days when the weather couldn't make it's mind up but that didn't stop the couple and their guests having an absolute ball, and it was an honour to be chosen to capture the day for them.
