What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The most important bit of information is the type of event, for example a wedding or birthday party and any additional details related to that - so if it’s a birthday party let us know the age of the party person. Next, let us know the name and location of the venue. Other pieces of information that help us are the start and end times, the number of guests, age range and if you have any special requests such as mood lighting, video or a specific type of music.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you see a DJ you like then your first step is to do some background enquiries, check out their profile page, check whether they have any reviews and look for links to their website or social media pages such as Facebook. See if they belong to any professional bodies or have any accreditations such as NADJ or DJ Mark Awards, and be sure to ask for evidence of PLI (Public Liability Insurance) and PAT, which is an annual test for electrical equipment. If you need further information, send them an e-mail or give them a call. They should be able to respond quickly and the answers they provide should put you at ease. Make sure that the price they are quoting covers everything you need and that there are no hidden extras.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
That’s simple - for the love of music. If you don’t have that there is little point in being a DJ. Having started off playing records at the local youth club, I realised that I had a talent to know what records to play and when in order to fill and keep a dance-floor. This made me realise that I could make a career out of something I loved and so started my adventure running my own mobile disco as well as DJing in nightclubs across the South East.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
The second booking we had off Add to Event was for an all-day wedding at an exclusive wedding venue in the South East, where the couple had some very specific requirements. There were some technical challenges to be met such as a second sound system for the Wedding Breakfast due to the main disco setup being some distance away at the far end of the marquee, plus it was hidden behind a partition until the evening.
We achieved this by using Wi-Fi signalling to the speakers meaning no messy, long cable runs. They also wanted mood lighting but with no available power sockets around parts of the marquee we installed the latest in Wi-Fi battery-powered lights with customisable colours, meaning we didn’t need any power sockets. In the end, it all went perfectly, with the bride, groom and their guests having a fantastic time. We even received many great compliments during the event.
It also resulted in us becoming one of the venue's preferred suppliers. We find Add to Event is a great one stop shop to make it easier for people to find the suppliers they need, all in the same place - and we often refer people to them from our own direct enquiries that we are unable to do.
