What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

Giving an accurate quote to our customers is important to us as we need to understand what type of event you are organising and what atmosphere you want to create. The date, venue, time of serving and numbers to be catered for are also really important to know.

What facilities will be available for your caterer is essential to know, especially if it is a tipi or marquee event including access and parking close to the dining area. Understanding what type of food you are looking for and how many courses you want to provide is also important to know.

If it is a wedding you want us to cater for, do you want an evening serving as well as the main meal in the day or perhaps you are wanting a light meal or afternoon tea in the daytime followed by something hot and tasty at night. The choices are endless and giving us as much detail as you can about what you would like to experience on the day would really help.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask for details about what is being offered. Is the provider using the best quality food available? How flexible will they be with numbers and potential changes on the day of the event? What experience do they have of serving the food you want?

It is not easy to judge, but try and get an idea of how they are to deal with. Will they be reliable if you are planning a year or more in advance? Make sure you get a fixed price and that you know what is included in the price. Will your guests enjoy the service as well as the food? It is always helpful to check recommendations on their website as price is not always an indicator of value or quality. Ensure that you check the menu and that the food is what you really want and don't over cater.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

We were due to retire 4 years ago. My husband had owned and run a busy fish and chip restaurant and take away for 15 years, so we decided that for our part time retirement income we would start a private party catering service offering the very best fish and chip meals. It went from strength to strength and we now cater for around 26 to 32 private parties, commercial and sporting events a year. We normally cater for between 60-200 guests and offer anything from a three course meal to a light bite.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

The variety of events we get through Add to Event is fantastic. From commercial product launches to weddings, we have catered for a range of events.

One of the most memorable events we catered for was at the Coniston Copper Mines. It is known for its challenging driving route, but once at the top, the views are spectacular and it makes for a wonderful venue.
