Based in Gloucestershire, High On The Hog is an outside catering company that specialises in hog roasts and BBQs. Using locally sourced, fresh ingredients, they cater for weddings, birthday parties, corporate functions and more.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

We need to know: the date of the event, timings, location, food required, additional food items and if they need additional non food items (do they require any hire items e.g crockery, cutlery, glassware, furniture, marquees). Our prices include good quality recyclable disposable crockery, cutlery and napkins. We also need to know the number attending, age range, if there is power and water, budget, and whether they want us to provide staff. If it is a outside bar - is it a cash bar/account bar/both and what drinks they want. Finally, the licensing - do they need us to obtain any appropriate licenses? Any other details that the client feels is relevant or helpful is always good to have.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Check that the caterer has an ethical buying policy and uses local produce and services where possible.
Ask if they have a environmentally friendly policy of using recyclables where possible and manage their waste correctly. Check that the hog roast uses good quality equipment which is safe and efficient. Check that the caterer understands your requirements and is prepared to work within them and not just offer you an off the shelf package. Check that the provider has the necessary paperwork, insurances and licences to operate.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Having spent a great deal of their careers in the hotel, catering and licensed trade sectors, Colin and Ned decided to focus on providing a high quality, value for money catering business providing service within Gloucestershire and surrounding counties. Using top of the range equipment, skilled and motivated staff and purchasing as much of their food and drink from local independent butchers, bakers, greengrocers and licensed trade suppliers they pride themselves on giving all their customers a top quality service at a price they can afford. Colin and Ned personally oversee every event to ensure that their high standards of food, drink and customer service are maintained.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We have only been on Add to Event for a short time, but we have already received two excellent bookings and are in discussions for several more. The use of credits rather than a commission allows us to remain competitive with pricing as opposed to sites we have used previously where 7 to 10% commission rates meant we had to either take the hit on the cost or increase the price accordingly which we did not wish to do. We are looking at ways we can work with other suppliers through Add to Event to be able to offer our clients a "one stop shop" opportunity when arranging their event. The calibre of requests on the site is much better than many other sites and Add to Event is definitely going to be an integral part of our marketing strategy going forward.
