Providing a range of magic styles from card magic to sleight of hand to verbal performances, Dave strives to keep guests entertained and works closely with the event host to tailor his performance to his intended audience.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
It is important for me to understand what a client has in mind so I can tailor my performance to suit and offer a correct quote. The most useful details needed are the date, location, the event type, how long the magic is needed, a start time and how many guests will be present. It also helps to give details on the age ranges of the guests (e.g. adults only or families).
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Magic can vary in style, skill and presentation. Some magicians might not be as technical as others but might be incredible entertainers and vice versa. When selecting a magician, consider if your guests would enjoy energetic or subtle/elegant, modern or classic, comedy magic or serious, card magic or mixed etc. Once you have an idea of what fits best for your event, read what the various magicians can offer and view their videos and photos to see if they are a match.
A good magician usually has a lot of performance experience that helps them tailor their magic on the fly to suit the situation. It's important to know the act you have booked has testimonials and evidence of many previous appearances so you know they'll take to your event like a duck to water.
It is often a good idea to chat with your potential magician on the phone before the event and discuss the finer points because you need to feel like they care. If they come across as distant, money-centric or dismissive, then you probably want to reconsider their involvement.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
When I started out in magic, I had no idea I would end up performing it professionally. Magic was my hobby then and it is still something I love just as much, if not more. My transition to becoming an events magician was gradual. I got asked to perform here and there and as the ball started rolling, my ability to entertain improved and the more people asked me to be at their events.
I have been performing magic for over 8 years and studying it for far longer. In the last few years, I have started experimenting with new styles and shows, such as at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The future is looking event brighter as I am already planning 2 Edinburgh fringe shows for the current year and a round the world trip to perform at various festivals. My year is already busy with many weddings, parties and corporate events and with every event I do, new doors of opportunity open for my to add some extra magic to new exciting situations.

I receive so many enquiries through this platform and one of the best things about it is that they listen to suggestions and are continually improving features and benefits.
