What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
Every event is unique, therefore for us to provide a quote to a customer we need the actual event date, a description of the event, the estimated number of guests attending, the venue, if the venue is located on the ground floor and whether it's an indoor or outdoor event. From this, we can use our experience to put together a suitable quotation based on the equipment/personnel required.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The deciding factor in most bookings is the price, however the cheapest may not always be the most suitable. Hiring a low budget DJ/Disco with some small speakers and a couple of lights for a 11 year old's party in the village hall is probably the right thing to do, but their set up may not be suitable for a large venue with 100+ guests.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I started DJing in 1977, when the DJ for a school disco cancelled at the last minute. I was involved with the lighting and sound for school theatre productions, so I got all of my school friends to bring their records in and we used the school's in house sound and lighting to have a school disco. From that point, I built my own deck/console and sound system using ex-jukebox speakers and I was hooked on DJing. During the 80s, I towed around a big box trailer with a stage full of light boxes and speakers. Nowadays, I use the latest commercial lighting effects and sound systems, which all pack down for easy transportation.

The beauty of this site is that the events are so varied, and they take me to places I have never played at. From wedding receptions, to big birthday parties held all around my area.
