Ryan Boden DJ provides professional mobile discos to the highest of standards and are based in Newcastle upon Tyne and will cover the surrounding 35 miles. Read on for some words of advice for when looking to book your DJ.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For me to be able to provide a comprehensive and accurate quote, I need to know the event date, start time, finish time, venue and the type of event you're hosting. Ideally, an idea of what you would like equipment wise too.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Firstly, make sure they are insured and are accredited by some form of organisation. Check their reviews and make sure they are backed up by solid representations through photos and videos; it's easy to get a few friends to leave some reviews on Facebook. Ask them about their equipment too, make sure it is professional grade and not cheap 'disco' effects, there is a huge difference and it really does affect the atmosphere of the event.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started DJing when I was 13. I practised day upon day for years, learning new songs from across multiple decades and learning how to mix those songs seamlessly together. I started to release online mixtapes and was shortly noticed by a local Bedlington nightclub who enlisted me to DJ their Friday and Saturday nights regularly. Before I knew it, I was being requested to play Thursday nights in Morpeth and again before I knew it, I was DJing in Morpeth 3 nights per week in The Alley, Vinyl and Seen. From this, I gained a large following for the music I played and how I played it. From then I was regularly being asked to DJ at people's birthdays and weddings. I had no equipment so laid them off, but it wasn't long before I decided to take the step towards purchasing 'disco' equipment and building and improving upon it. I could now do mobile events and my diary was fast filling up with birthday parties, engagements, and Christmas celebrations. It was not long until I had to give up my residency at the Morpeth venues to entrust myself upon my new mobile venture.

Skip ahead a few years, 800 private bookings later and thousands of pounds of equipment investment, I am now comfortably performing to over 100 highly satisfied customers per year, from birthday parties to hen nights, christenings to engagements, weddings to Christmas parties, corporate events to university graduations.
I love exploring all the latest genres, releases, and remixes in the charts and R'n'B, Hip Hop and indie. All the while I still love to play out the golden treasures still going strong on the dance floor from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. With regards to music tastes, there is not a group of guests who I have not experienced and successfully entertained; from heavy rockers to hip-hop fans, to pop lovers, to indie revellers, to the 90s house music enthusiasts.

In my earlier years, I held DJ residencies in several venues including Seen, The Alley, Chambers, Shooters, Bubbles, Bar 44, The Cree, Portland, Astons, Jay Jays, Queens Head, Black Diamond and the Prince of Wales, amongst various others, playing to vastly different crowds on an almost daily basis. And now, I have played to tens of thousands of people across hundreds of venues for private functions. My biggest crowd was of 2,000 when I played an indie warm-up set for Lawson at the O2 Academy Newcastle.

When it comes to your party I pay attention to every detail. As well as presenting myself in a professional manner with smart attire, I also take pride in the presentation of my on-stage equipment - no messy cables, symmetrical appearance and always programmed to high professional standards (no cheap ‘disco’ lights or nasty sounding speakers).

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

The most amazing booking I've had through Add to Event was certainly Durham University's Summer Ball. It was easily one of the best nights I've had in my career and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. There were over 500 students in attendance and they were all up for a great party with a real buzz in the air from the moment they arrived in after their meal. They loved all the music I threw at them, everything from cheese to indie to R'n'B to top international tracks from around the world. It was so great they booked me for a further 12 events that year.
