What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order to provide a comprehensive quote to a customer we ideally need to know the event date, approximately how many guests would be attending, and the location of the venue. An idea of what sort of event it is, and any preferred theme would also be useful.
We can then look at travel costs, whether we need to provide audio equipment, and put together a competitive quote to meet the customer's needs.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

There are lots of different murder mystery companies, with their own styles and what is included in the cost. Ask what the format of the event would be: is there acting between courses or for the entire night including during the meal? How many actors are included in the price? Are the guests expected to take part as suspects? Is the style serious or lighthearted? Does the customer need to provide anything, such as printed material or prizes? Does the company have audio equipment (microphones) for larger audience sizes?

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

We have enjoyed performing murder mysteries for over 12 years. Initially, we were with a different murder mystery company, but we felt that there were areas where events could be run better and so in 2013 set up A Stab in the Dark to have the control over style, content and flexibility that has given our clients excellent service over many events.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We had a fantastic event in 2019 as the entertainment for law graduates from Staffordshire University in the grounds of beautiful Heath House, near Stoke on Trent. The students threw themselves into our 1920s themed plot (as well as the bar, which led to some very creative answers!). There were a lot of guests taking part, but all the hard work was worth it and the feedback afterwards was excellent.
