Capturing a subject’s essence is compelling and keeps David X Green passionate about producing fine photography. Here he shares one of his recent bookings and also his advice on what you should know about booking your own event photographer.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

I've often been able to provide complete quotes here on this site, particularly when customers list the dates, times, the number of hours and people involved (e.g. event or portrait of a couple), the purpose of the images (social media or printed photos etc). Obviously budget is important as well.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Experience is key along with a website demonstrating how well the provider has done with similar jobs in the past. Check what costs are not included in the quote, turnaround times and how the products are delivered.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I am a born extrovert so I thoroughly enjoy photographing events and portraits. My area of expertise is people actually enjoying being photographed (especially when they normally haven't) and capturing natural, spontaneous expressions and moments. I love this work. First attracted to it during a degree show, where the graduate shot close-up portraits, which moved me.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I have had a few bookings through Add to Event. Most recently a beautiful Divali celebration, 130 people in a banquet hall, dressed to the nines in silk saris and jackets. The client was very pleased with the images and I enjoyed spending time with this very inviting and generous culture in a part of London I wouldn't normally visit (the South, haha!)
