What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The most important elements are when and where the event is, then a rough idea of how many guests will be attending, so I can plan the audio equipment accordingly, and whether I'll need the help of my sound and lighting engineer. Ideas as to the style of music required are helpful but not vital as we can always discuss this further into the planning process.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Do they seem professional and reliable? If so they are likely to have invested good money in top quality audio kit, and regularly devote hours to learning new songs. They will also have lots of experience of different kinds of events, and all paperwork such as Public Liability Insurance and equipment PAT Testing.
Can you enjoy audio and video recordings to see if you like their style of singing? And do they cover the actual songs or styles of music you'd like at your event? Some singers tend to cover particular genres or eras, so make it clear what you'd like for your event and check they have experience in that area of music.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I've always sung and performed, and studied musical theatre and performing arts first at school, then college, then drama school in both London and the States. Between touring work a year or so after graduating, I kind of fell into cabaret/event singing after I answered an ad to form a duo. For a year or so this gave me a great introduction into the gigging life, and I then went solo, making singing my main income and vocation, and have been doing ever since! Over the years I've come to specialise in weddings and private parties and now do that almost exclusively, with the odd public concert/fundraising ball/golf club event thrown in for good measure. I stay busy via word of mouth and I think because I've worked hard to be very versatile, always learning new requests, and have made sure to become proficient at singing most styles and eras of music, from chart hits to classical.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I've had wedding and party bookings through Add to Event and it's a nice extra string to my bow and another way for people to find me online. I'd definitely recommend it to other music professionals to give it a try!
