Specs & Bear Horsebox Canteen provides a vintage, vibrant, rustic Horsebox selling Raclette cheese loaded with Nachos and herby Potatoes lavished in the finest toppings of homemade salsa, guac and sour cream. They can cater for any events but love a festival or local community event and would also love to be invited to weddings where we will discuss your requirements.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

From an organiser or customer we would want the time, the date and number of hours we would be required for. We would also ask if electricity and water would be available. For and event we would like to know the exact number we would be catering for. We would also ask about where our horsebox would be placed and if there would be any obstructions we should be made aware of to avoid any damages.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

We would advise any customers to research what Raclette cheese is as we are a niche caterer. We would also encourage potential customers to look at our reviews and ask what hygiene star we carry. We are very happy to hold 5 stars from our local authority. Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Specs & Bear basically evolved from tipsy nights where we would be drinking our favourite Gin. Bear was also struggling with his mental health during lock down and Specs decided he needed a project for BOTH of their sanity.
A horsebox was purchased and Bear set to work while the gin flowed and menus were born. The idea was a Eureka moment that again came from a night of Gin and Funk and Soul one Saturday night .... Specs shouted out " Raclette " and the rest was history. The Horsebox was converted and the love of cheese began.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We have done really well via Add to Event and have had the pleasure of meeting many many different people from all walks of life. We have had a booking in exclusive events in London all the way to a little cheese party at a Police officer's home on the drive. Everywhere we go we fit just right in with the client's wishes.
One of our memorable bookings was in Cambridge where we were booked by a famous Film and TV couple ( Bear didn't have a clue but Specs was smitten and star-struck)The basic brief was that we would be catering for the family and a few friends but in the end, the Bonfire event was opened up to the village. It was a great evening and ran very well. Everyone was fed and came back for seconds and the feedback was overwhelming especially as we later found out there were some real Foodies at the party who loved our food .
