Based in Herne Bay, Kent, Me Old Vintage China provides vintage crockery for afternoon tea and a variety of buffet meals. They cater for weddings, birthday parties, christenings, baby showers and more.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The more detail the organiser provides us with, the more comprehensive the quote will be. A date, venue, time and number of guest that need catering for would be helpful to know. The more certain the organiser is of the food required, the better. Listing lots of choices is harder to quote, so being more specific makes a quote less complicated. Also food tolerances and options for vegan, vegetarian, gluten free are helpful as that can change a quote. I would like to know if the event venue has a kitchen where I could store food or even prepare fresh food.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would ask the afternoon tea provider how long they have been in business and for reviews from their clients. I would advise the customer to look at the providers website, to find out as much information as I could about what the provider actually provides and how the end product looks.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I wanted a garden party for my 50th Birthday but could not face paper plates so I started trawling car boots, charity shops and auctions for plates, then salad bowls, then cutlery and the business grew from there. After the garden party, which turned into a mini Glastonbury due to the great British summer, I had so much crockery my neighbour said I should hire it out. A few more car boots to incorporate the beautiful teacups and Me Old Vintage China was born. I have always been that mum who threw the best kids parties, best mulled wine parties and best Halloween parties, hence I started catering. Now I take such pride in making other people's parties amazing.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

A lady was due to celebrate her 70th. She was very sceptical about hiring someone online and worried she was paying a deposit to someone she had never met. I made her party brilliant, and everyone commented on how beautiful the crockery was and how gorgeous the food/cakes were. She left me a great review, which I was so pleased about. Whenever anyone says they want a specific type of party, I direct them to this website as there is no other that offers such variety.
