What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a comprehensive quote we need the date and time of the event, the number of guests to cater for, the venue address and the type of food they require. If it is a public event, we would need to know the likely footfall and how many food traders would be attending. It is also helpful to know if there is electricity available and any kitchen facilities.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I wouldn't just go on price. You need to ask the caterer where they source their food and what experience they have in catering events similar to your own. Ask if you can taste their food prior to booking them, or meet with them, some catering companies can sound very convincing on paper.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
The Pig and Jacket is run by Richard and Cheryl. We used to visit a family-run farm in Laughton with the kids, then buy some of their meat to take home and cook. We decided it was too good to keep to ourselves and decided to cook it for others too. We provide good quality grass-fed beef and free-range pork which is affordable to all.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We have had a number of bookings through Add to Event. Our first one was a corporate celebration event. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond their control meant the event was not celebratory at all and we did offer to postpone. However, they continued with the day and then had an event a few months later, which was much more of a celebration, so we ended up with two bookings out of one event! We have recommended Add to Events to a number of other caterers.
