What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a competitive quote to a customer we would first need the event date and time. A very brief explanation of the type of event they would want to host and the number of guests attending. The type of food required and if the event is inside or outside. And last but not least their budget, so we can design a menu that suits them. Not just for taste but to suit their price range.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would ask the provider about the product they are offering. Ask as many questions as you possibly can. Try to get to know them before you hire them. Are they available when you need them, what service they can offer and can they work within your budget? You need to feel completely comfortable before you hire. Ask for recommendations from previous clients.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Chef Thomas Harker. I have a small but extremely personal, high-quality catering company that my wife Debra and myself run. We are new to the West Sussex area and my plan is to be the best caterer in this area. My company is called ''Gourmet Hog Kitchens''.
I have been a chef for over 43 years, working around the world. I have been an Executive Chef for some of the best companies worldwide. Working from Japan, Korea, and the Middle east. I have recently left Abu Dhabi, where I catered private yachts, jets and private dinner parties for the elite.
I specialize in personal private events ranging from private yachts to intimate dinner parties, along with large wedding venues, supplying delicious, slow-cooked, mouth-watering food. No event is too small or too big.
It’s about real food.
I am a member of “Chaine des Rotisseurs” and The World Association of Chefs Societies “WACS”. I am also an international judge for Horrica and WACS. I have created menus and cooked for HRH Queen Elizabeth, the late Princess Diana, Prince Charles and the British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.
I guarantee you will love my food. I am all about flavour and style, fresh and simple uncomplicated cuisine.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Gourmet Hog Kitchens are at the moment in Abu Dhabi cooking Lamb Roasts for VVIPs, but due back to the UK in the next couple of days. Gourmet Hog Kitchens have only recently started using 'Add to Event because we wanted to return home and make our little company work locally, in West Sussex. Although we have only just started to use Add to Event, we have had 5 jobs booked so far, our first being in the next couple of weeks. I find every client to be like a close friend.
