Oxford based Shane Sterling tells us all about how he became a full time magician for events and parties all over the world.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

I need to know the time and date of the event. Where it's taking place, how many people will be attending and if it's a formal or informal event. Another detail that I like to know is whether it's charity event, if so, if it's 100% not for profit event.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When booking a magician make sure they are good as every guest will see them. The spotlight is on them so to speak and as a result will make or break your event.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I am an Ex British soldier who was injured and medically discharged from the army this injury not only destroyed my military career it also destroyed my sporting career as I was an international athlete, representing the country. The injury left me sofa bound and unable to walk for approx 2 years this is when I discovered the art of magic.

I had 2 options, sit on the sofa watch TV and do nothing, or do something. That something, was studying magic and illusion.

I realised if I wanted to be good at this art form, I would need to practice everyday. I used my training and knowledge the army had installed into me and put a gruelling training regime in place to gain the manual dexterity and slight of hand skills of a professional magician, after all most magicians have been practicing form a very young age. I studied and practiced for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week and am now a full time professional magician working all over the world, amazing people with the gift I found when I was injured.

The real magic is when you meet a random person show them something that makes their jaw drop and brings about a big smile. Oh, and making women speechless, now that is real magic :-)
