Children's Party Entertainers in Devon

Professor Bumble offers complete party entertainment to children aged 3 to 7 years old throughout Devon and the South West of England. Though much of the entertainment takes place at birthday parties, Professor Bumble also covers weddings, holiday parks and fairs. From comedy magic to unicycling to a bubble machine, he keeps children and adults alike entertained at any event.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To help me provide the best possible entertainment, firstly I need to know the age of the children likely to attend as my show varies accordingly. For younger children my show is much gentler with
more use of puppets and simple props and tricks. Older children require a more forthright delivery, with more complex tricks and jokes, and maybe even some danger such as knife juggling and fire.
It's useful as well to know the approximate numbers so I can bring along enough balloons and
prizes when appropriate. Venue type also makes a difference, as there are things I can do in a village hall or field that I can't do in your front room. Finally for birthday parties, I can theme the games
and sometimes the show to something the birthday child particularly likes. Maybe for example
Frozen, Star Wars or dinosaurs.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Children's entertainers who have many years of experience are preferred as your event is more likely to run smoothly and be stress free. Also make sure that the entertainer is right for the age of children, and you can't beat good references as a guide to what you're going to get. Equity membership means that the entertainer is professionally recognised and has the relevant insurance.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started juggling and magic as a hobby, and someone saw me juggling and asked me if I did children's parties, and I decided to give it a try. After a while I was getting so many bookings that I decided to give up my proper job (in a motorcycle shop). After a while I built up a good selection of circus equipment and I started teaching circus skills at schools and youth clubs.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

One of the first bookings I got through Add to Event was for a charity event in a large field. It was very busy and I did a couple of short shows which went down very well. In between the performances, I made lots and lots of balloon animals. I also spread out around me lots of circus equipment, including spinning plates, diabolos, poi, twirling ribbons, stilts, pedal go's and little unicycles etc. To help out the charity with their funding, I put a collection bucket down and asked for voluntary donations. I don't know exactly how much was in the bucket, but it was very heavy by the end of the afternoon. A fun day!
