About Plum Catering
Five years ago I had an idea that I decided to turn into a business. I had been writing a food column in The Argus where I endlessly promoted good quality ingredients and simple recipes that just about anybody could cook. The feed back I received from readers led me to believe that we have all become very savvy about food and we know what we like.
I like to allow the integrity of the ingredients to speak for themselves and I never use flavour enhancers or processed food. Everything that appears on the table on the day has been freshly cooked using the best seasonal ingredients. Flavours are enhanced with fresh herbs or even edible flowers. Meat is sourced from a good local butcher, it’s free range and I know everything about its origins. Similarly fish is bought on the seafront, I like to tell my clients what’s in season and I encourage them to choose mackerel, pollock, cuttlefish or other sustainable varieties.
I love British food, we have great ingredients from some of the best farms in the world, we have learnt about and embraced food from all around the world and recently Le Figaro announced that more home cooked food can be found in Britain than in France!
Therefore I try to produce a meal for that special day that will be remembered for years to come. I believe we all love our food, so we should have the best food on that day, it is a meal shared with those we love and it should be savoured like a good wine.
